What is Elsevier's waiver policy for open access fees?
Last updated on July 26, 2024If you genuinely can't afford the fees to get your article published open access, then individual waiver requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and may be granted in cases of genuine need.
We are unable to offer waivers for Article Publishing Costs in Hybrid journals. These journals offer the option to publish for free under a subscription model. However, waivers may be available for full Gold Open Access journals.
Priority for this waiver program is given to applications by authors from countries eligible for the Research4Life program.
Elsevier has established funding body agreements to help you comply with the open access requirements of the major funding bodies. In some cases, funding bodies reimburse the fee you have to pay.
