What can I do if I'm having trouble signing in to Editorial Manager?
Last updated on July 29, 2025While each journal using Editorial Manager (EM) can customize the appearance of their login page, the general layout remains the same .
Enter your username (generally defaults to your email address) and password, then select one of the role login buttons underneath.
If unsure of your username/password, select the 'Send Login Details' button, just below the role login buttons to have your details sent to your registered email address.

- To find the journal's login page, start from the journal's homepage on elsevier.com, and select the Submit your paper' link at upper right. This will bring you to the journals EM login page .
- Check you have the right username, by default it is your registered email address: See more details on login steps.
- Use the 'Send Login Details' link if you are unsure of your username (or need to reset your password).
- If you received an invitation or reminder, use the same email address.
- You may be able to discover the username saved in your browser: See more details on retrieving username or password from your browser.
- Check you have the right password. Don’t worry, you can reset it easily: See more details on password resets.
- Check your SPAM folder, easily avoidable by adding our email address to your safe senders. See more details about spam filters.
- Clear Editorial Manager cookies from your browser. We suggest trying this first if you're experiencing issues signing in, or try using a different browser: How do I clear my cache and all cookies?
- If you continue to experience difficulties, clear any old history from your browser (especially after resetting to a new password). Steps will differ for each browser, see tips for common browsers here. Please note that this will clear all stored data in your browser.
- If you use, or have been invited via, different email addresses in Editorial Manager you may have multiple accounts/profiles which will need to be merged. See how to request merging of multiple accounts.

- You can add or change your areas of interest or expertise via your ‘Update My Information link.
- You can let a journal know that you are away, without having to email anyone. Check Unavailable dates under your Update My Information link.
- Editors may create a proxy account on your behalf, in order to send you an invitation to review or submit a paper. Such an account is only active if you claim the account, set a password, and agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy.
- You will always have an Author role once you have registered, and you may also have a Reviewer and/or Editor role.
- You can see what role you are logged into in the top Navigation be, and potentially switch roles there if you have more than one.
- You can set your Reviewer or Editor role as your defaulted login. After logging in, select your name in the Top Navigation bar, and then ‘Update My Information’ from the menu that appears. Here you can update the selection for Default Login Role , and then scroll to the bottom to save.
