When will my article be published?

Last updated on November 11, 2025

When your article will be published depends on:

  • Publication times
  • Status of your article
  • Proofing
  • Embargo period

Other factors influencing publication of an article:

  • The journals production workflow
  • If all necessary information is provided in the source files (if not, you may be contacted regarding missing information)
  • How quickly corrections to proofs are returned
  • Whether any further clarification is required regarding the corrections requested

Publication times

The general publication process differs between journals. For most journals you can consult the actual editorial and production time at their 'Journal Insights' page.

Follow these steps to consult a journal's 'Journal Insights' page:

  1. Go to your journal's homepage. To go to your journal's homepage, search for the journal using the search box under 'Find by journal title' in the journal author's page. Click 'Journal Insights' in the 'Journal Metrics' column at your journal homepage.

Please note that your paper may be published quickly than the time shown in the journal metrics, as this is purely an average.

  2. Click 'Speed Metrics'. Here you can find:
    • The average number of weeks it takes for an article to be reviewed.
    • The average number of weeks it takes for an article to reach key publication points in the production process.

You will receive notifications via email at regular intervals through out the publication process to keep you updated on your papers progress. When your paper is fully citeable you will receive an email to confirm how your paper can be cited.

Proofing

After your article is accepted for publication, you'll receive proofs to check and approve before your article is published. If you'd like to know more about the proofing timeframes, see When will I receive the proofs of my article?

Embargo period

If your article has an embargo period, this determines when it will be published. When an embargo period is placed on your article, it isn't published before a specific date and time. If you have questions relating to an embargo on your article, please contact your Journal Manager or contact us using one of the options at the bottom of this page.

Status of your article

Your article will be published after it is accepted for publication in Editorial Manager. Once your article has been accepted for publication you'll receive an acknowledgement letter with the reference code which you can use to track the status of your accepted article with the track your accepted article tool.
