What is a society membership discount?
Last updated on July 26, 2024Society owned open access and hybrid journals offer discounts to their members on the Article Publishing Charges (also known as OA fees). The author receives a society membership discount upon successful validation of membership.
How can I receive a society membership discount for the Open Access Article Publishing Charges (APCs)?
Please enter your society membership details (e.g. member number or email address) when you complete the rights and access form, after your article is accepted for publication. The validity of your membership will be checked by the society and you will be provided discount upon successful validation.
Do all society journals offer a society membership discount?
Society journals which have an agreement, offer membership discounts to its members. Please refer to the Journal Home Page for more information.
Why was I not granted the society membership discount?
Please contact the society directly, if your request for membership discount was rejected, as the society is ultimate decision-maker about membership.
What happens if my request for society membership discount is declined?
If your request for society membership discount is declined, you will have 7 days to challenge the decision with the society. If the original decision of the society prevails, you will have to pay the full amount price.
Can I submit the society membership details while uploading my revised manuscript in Editorial Manager?
No, you can enter the society membership details only while completing the rights and access form, post acceptance. We will ask you at submission if you are a member of the society so that we can already present you the discounted price that you will pay after the paper is accepted and when you’re eligible.
Will the discount be available only if the corresponding Author is a member?
Based on the agreement with the society, either the corresponding author or any of the co-authors is eligible for the membership discount.
What should I do to become a society member?
Please contact the society directly for signing up for membership. If you are submitting your paper to a society journal offering discount, you will have the option to become a member during the submission process in Editorial Manager.
How will I know that my request for discount has been accepted?
The validation process is triggered once the society membership details are entered post-acceptance in the rights and access form. You will receive an invoice with the society membership discount when the society has validated and accepted their request within 24-48 hours.
What will happen if I don’t complete the rights & access form?
Full open access journals: You will have 14 days to complete the rights and access form. If you don’t start or don’t complete the form, an invoice with the full amount will be sent to you as we did not receive the information to match you to a membership discount.
Hybrid journals: If you don’t complete the rights and access form within 5 days, the article will be published under subscription by default and therefore you will not have to pay the APC.
