How do I remove reference manager field codes?
Last updated on February 12, 2018Reference manager software programs such as Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero can be used to help manage references in scientific articles. While these programs are useful because citations from most databases can be exported to a Library, it can interfere with the production process. It is recommended that authors remove field codes before submission. Follow the instructions below to do this.
Once you remove all hidden codes, you can no longer reformat or unformat the citations (or access the Library) so always make a copy of your document before removing any codes.
How
Select the method you want to use to see the steps.
- Click 'Export' in the Mendeley Citation plugin toolbar. By selecting this option, Mendeley will:
- Remove the code that powers the Mendeley Fields.
- Convert the entire document to plain text.
- No longer automatically update your bibliography to include new references, so make sure you're totally happy with your references before undertaking this step.
