How do I find a submission I was invited to review in Editorial Manager?
Last updated on October 31, 2024Review invitations and reminder emails usually include a direct link to log in and access the submission. In the event you do not have the email, or the email does not have links, you can also find your invitations, pending assignments, and completed review assignments by logging into the journal's Editorial Manager site.
To locate a review assignment, you must be logged in to the account that was invited. If you were invited at a different email address than the one linked to your usual Editorial Manager account, use the contact channel at the bottom of this page for assistance; and provide the manuscript number and the email addresses involved.
To ensure the security of your account, direct login links to Editorial Manager sites will expire after a short time, or after a single use (depending on the journal's settings). If you click an expired link, you will reach an error page for the journal. From there you may use the top navigation bar to log in with your username and password, and reach your main menu.
Use the most recent email sent to you about the review assignment. Before clicking, be sure you do not already have Editorial Manager open in your browser as direct links sent in emails are meant to log you in and may fail if you are currently logged in under a different account or journal.
- Agree: This automatically logs you in to a web browser page where you can confirm you've chosen to review the paper. Then you'll be prompted to click 'Pending Assignments', where you can view the manuscript.
- Login to Journal link: most reviewer invitations also include a link with text such as 'Login to [Journal Title]', which will link you to the login page. You can use this to view the invitation without agreeing to review.
- Already agreed: if you have agreed to review, or if the journal's Editorial Team has agreed on your behalf, then the agree link will not work. In that case you should also have received a second email acknowledging that you have agreed, which should include a link.
Login via the Journal Homepage
- Go to the journal homepage.
- If you don't know how to get to the journal homepage, search for your journal on our Journal Catalogue by title, keywords or ISSN and click the journal title.
- Optional: Save the journal homepage to your browser favourites for future reference.
- Click 'Submit Your Paper' at top right on the journal homepage for the login menu to appear. Note this does not actually begin a submission, it just brings you to the login page.
- Log in with your Editorial Manager username and password.
- Select the "Reviewer Login" button to go to the reviewer menu (you can also switch menus after login).
- If you are unsure of your password, click 'Send Login Details' and provide your name and the same email address the invitation was sent to.
If you are not sure of the journal
Use the contact channel at the bottom of this page to contact us and we can help you locate the right journal.
Once you are logged in you should see Reviewer Main Menu in large text on the left side of the page.
If you see the Author or Editor menu, you can switch Role via the drop down list at the upper right of the screen, next to your username.
- If you have not responded to the invitation, it will be listed under New Reviewer Invitations.
- If you have agreed to the invitation, it will be listed under Pending Assignments.
- If you have already submitted the review, it will be listed under Completed Assignments.
If you do not have a reviewer role at all, or if you are on the Reviewer Main Menu but the specific manuscript is not listed:
- Check whether you received email notification that the assignment was expired, a decision was made by the editor, or the editor uninvited you from the submission. You will not have access to the submission in these cases.
- Double check which journal you are in at the top left.
- Check the email address the invitation emails were sent to and compare to the address you see when you click Update My Information in the top menu.
- If the address is different and you know the login details associated with that different email address, you can click logout and then login again to the other account.
- If you are unsure, click 'Send Login Details' and provide your name and the same email address the invitation was sent to.
- If you cannot log into that email, or would like to have the assignment moved to your preferred account, use the contact channel at the bottom of this page for assistance.
If you have confirmed the journal and account you are logged into and still cannot find the submission, use the contact channel at the bottom of this page for assistance.
