How do I enter author contributor roles (CRediT) in Editorial Manager?
Last updated on February 08, 2023
Most Elsevier journal on EM request submitting authors to indicate the Contributor Role for each listed co-author during submission. These roles show how each person contributed to the article. CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) offers authors the opportunity to share an accurate and detailed description of their diverse contributions to the published work.
- The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that the descriptions are accurate and agreed by all authors.
- The role(s) and degree of contribution of all authors should be listed, using the relevant categories defined by https://credit.niso.org/.
- Authors may have contributed in multiple roles.
- CRediT in no way changes the journal’s criteria to qualify for authorship.
How
Submitting authors may be asked or required to select one or more CRediT roles for each author, including the submitting author.
- During submission, proceed to the Manuscript Data step .
- Select the ‘Author’ heading to open the list of authors . Then select the ‘Edit’ (
) button for an author, or else select the ‘Add an Author’ button to open a popup to enter the information.
- Scroll down to the heading Contributor Roles and select "Click here to select roles" to reveal the CRediT list.
- Tick all the roles that apply to the author as in this example .
- The journal may require you to select the degree of contribution for each selected role, as in this screenshot .
- After completing all the other author information, select the ‘Save’ (
) button at the top or bottom.
When completed
- The contribution details are recorded for each author.
- Journals may publish the information in the article as a CRediT statement, as seen in the example at the bottom of this page.
