Could you extend the due date of my revision?

Last updated on September 14, 2024

To request for an extension of the due date of your revision you're required to contact the Editor of your journal.

If a due date has been set for your revision, it will be displayed in the folder relevant to the current status. Look for the Date Revision Due column .

Only the corresponding author will be able to communicate with editors through Editorial Manager.

How?

Follow these steps to request for an extension of the due date of your revision:

  1. Log in to the journal where your manuscript is located and go to the Main Menu.
    • If you do not see the Author Main menu, select your name in the top navigation bar. Here you can switch to the Author role.
  2. Locate your pending revision, usually in the folder 'Submissions Needing Revision'.
    • If you already started the revision process, it will be under another folder instead, for example ’Incomplete Submissions being revised'.
  3. Select 'Send E-mail' in the action column.
    • If the links are collapsed, click 'Action Links' to expand the list.
    • If the link is missing, it means the journal has disabled the function. Send your request to our support team via the contact cannel at the bottom of this page, and we will ensure it reaches the Editors.
  4. Select the most relevant template from the drop-down menu and click Customize Letter.
    • The journal may or may not have a specific template for such a request.
    • Some journals may have only one template, in that case you will skip this selection step and the Customize Letter screen will open immediately.
  5. Write an email to the Editor in which you request to extend the due date of your revision. In this email, please include:
    • How much longer you think you need to finish your revision.
    • Reason(s) for requesting extension.
    • Your suggestion for a new due date for the Editor to consider.
    • The letter template will include identifying information, keep those details unchanged to help the Editorial Team find the relevant submission.
  6. Select 'Preview and Send' to confirm your edits. Here you can go back to make further changes if needed.
  7. Select 'Send E-mail' to send your extension request to the Editor.

After completing these steps:

  • The Editorial Team will consider your request and respond to you via email.
  • The email you have sent is visible in the submission record.
  • If the Editorial Team does not respond within a few days, please contact us via the channels below.
