How do I work with LaTeX in Elsa?

Last updated on November 14, 2025

You can add your LaTeX files to Elsa by following the below steps:

Note: LaTeX files will not appear in the Write space but are instead transmitted directly to our production vendors. If you wish to review the LaTeX files, you can download them directly to your device.

  1. Navigate to the chapter to which you would like to upload your files. You may need to click "Edit" to begin working in the chapter.
  2. Click on the "LaTeX files" tab at the top of the page
  3. Select "Upload"
  4. Browse for your file package and select all files which you would like to add
  5. You may enter an optional note in the "Note" field if needed, then select "Upload"
  • If you wish to delete a file, click on the trashcan icon in the "Actions" column.
  • If you wish to download files for review, click the Download button in the "Actions" column.

To view notes associated with the files, hover over the comments icon in the "Notes" column.

Print Preview is not supported for LaTeX submissions. Authors can instead upload the compiled PDF along with all LaTeX source files.

If you have a Word file that contains LaTeX, please import your Word file via Word import and upload the LaTeX files to the "LaTeX files" tab separately. The LaTeX files tab does not support Word documents.

For Content Managers:

The Publishing Assistant does not calculate the presence of LaTeX in a chapter. We recommend navigating to the chapter and checking the LaTeX tab to confirm presence of LaTeX files and then including a note in the Write space and on the transmittal form indicating that "Latex files are uploaded". You do not need to be in Edit mode in the Write space to review the LaTeX tab.

As LaTeX is not entered into the Write space, LaTeX files will not be included in the castoff/extent calculations. The printed page estimate/cast-off calculator for chapters that contain only LaTeX can be set to 0. For chapters that contain LaTeX and where content is entered into the Write space, the allotments can be set individually for each chapter.
