How can I Reinvite reviewers in Editorial Manager?
Last updated on February 23, 2023Editorial Manager (EM) allows editors to quickly reinvite reviewers who declined or were uninvited, or those who reviewed the previous version of the submission.
It is also possible for editors to reopen a completed review under certain circumstances. See this FAQ.
Reinviting a reviewer who declined or was uninvited
- Sign in to EM for the journal where the manuscript is located.
- Navigate to the manuscript record via 'Search Submissions' or the 'Editor To-Do List'.
- Select 'Invite Reviewers' under the 'Action' column to be directed to the 'Review Selection Summary'. For more details on this screen see How can I view and manage pending reviews?
- Locate the reviewer under Invited Reviewers and select the Reinvite button.
- The target reviewer is displayed in the standard reviewer search results screen, with options to select depending on your permissions.
- In the 'Select As' area, tick the 'Inv' tickbox as shown in this screenshot.
- At the bottom, select 'Proceed'.
- The 'Confirm Selections and Select Letters' screen appears.
To allow this reviewer to see previous reviews
- To see the details of a completed review, select the name of the reviewer to open the review in a popup window.
- Tick to select any completed reviews to include for the reinvited reviewer to view.
- The reviewer can see the selected comments from their action menu, see the example for a new invitation.
- If the invitation letter includes the merge code %REVIEWER_COMMENTS_TO_AUTHOR% then the selected comments will appear in the email.
You can adjust the letters for each reviewer:
- Use the drop down to switch from the default letter to a different template. Many journals have an alternate invitation letter for revisions. Note this will delete any customizations you may have applied already.
- Select 'Customize' to view, customize, and save the letter text and options. For example, you may wish to explain why the reviewer is being reinvited rather than just sending the standard wording.
- The 'Days to Review' or 'Due Date' will be editable if you have permission to override reviewer due dates. For more details see How can I view or change a Reviewer Due Date in Editorial Manager?
- When ready, select 'Confirm Selections and Proceed'. Wait for the confirmation screen to appear before clicking away or closing the browser tab.
