How can I Reinvite reviewers in Editorial Manager?

Last updated on February 23, 2023

Editorial Manager (EM) allows editors to quickly reinvite reviewers who declined or were uninvited, or those who reviewed the previous version of the submission.

It is also possible for editors to reopen a completed review under certain circumstances. See this FAQ.

Reinviting a reviewer who declined or was uninvited

  1. Sign in to EM for the journal where the manuscript is located.
  2. Navigate to the manuscript record via 'Search Submissions' or the 'Editor To-Do List'.
  3. Select 'Invite Reviewers' under the 'Action' column to be directed to the 'Review Selection Summary'. For more details on this screen see How can I view and manage pending reviews?
  4. Locate the reviewer under Invited Reviewers and select the Reinvite button.
  5. The target reviewer is displayed in the standard reviewer search results screen, with options to select depending on your permissions.
  6. The 'Confirm Selections and Select Letters' screen appears.

  1. When ready, select 'Confirm Selections and Proceed'. Wait for the confirmation screen to appear before clicking away or closing the browser tab.

After these steps, the reviewer(s) are sent a new invitation.

  • The reviewer(s) are listed as 'Invited' on the Reviewer Selection Summary.
  • The invitation appears on the reviewer main menu.
  • In some cases, assigned editors may be configured to receive a notification or each reviewer that is invited or assigned.
