How can I monitor pending revisions in Editorial Manager?

Last updated on April 16, 2024

Editors can monitor pending revisions in Editorial Manager (EM) from their main menu. Some editor roles will be restricted to see only those revisions they were assigned to in the previous version.

Note: The folder described here shows all pending revisions that you have permission to view. To select specific groups of pending revisions to look at, use the Author Revision Status Report as described in Author Revision Reminders.

How?

  1. To view all pending Revisions, go to the Submissions out for Revision folder of the main menu.
    • A list of all pending revisions is shown, including everything from the time the author is notified of the decision until either the author submits the revision, or the paper is withdrawn.
    • You may be restricted to see only those submissions you were assigned to on the previous version.
    • Click the settings icon at top right of the table, and tick the columns you want to include in your view. Click Submit to update the table and save the options to your profile.
    • You can sort this folder by the up and down arrows on each column, resize columns by dragging the border line to one side, or click and drag column headings to change the order.
  2. The Current Status column may include the following terms, if the journal has not customized status terms:
    • Revise – the author has taken no action since the decision. Journals may have automatic reminders configured for this status
    • Incomplete – the author has begun the submission process for the revision. Journals may have automatic reminders configured for this status
    • Revision Needs Approval – the author has built the revised PDF but not yet approved it. Journals may have automatic reminders configured for this status.
    • Decline to Revise – the author has declined to submit the revision, but still has the option to reinstate until it is withdrawn.
      • Most journals are configured to automatically withdraw such submissions after allowing one week for the author to reconsider.
      • For journals without automation, the Editorial Office will monitor and withdraw declined revisions after a reasonable time.
      • Contact your Journal Manager or other Editorial Office contact with any questions about Decline to Revise policy for your journal.
  3. Click on any link in the Action column. In particular for revisions you may need the following, if you have permission:
  4. This folder includes unique columns not seen in most folders:
    • The Revision Due Date shows the due date if one has been set. Editors with permission can update the dates within the Details screen as described in How can I change author revision due dates.
    • The 'View Decision' column includes a direct link to the decision letter, which could also be seen in the History window and the View Reviews and Comments window.
