Can I see other reviewer's comments?
Last updated on November 04, 2022In Editorial Manager (EM) editors can allow reviewers to view the comments of other reviewers in three ways:
- As part of the invitation: if you are invited to review a revision, or after other reviewers have already commented on the current version, the editor may choose to include previous reviewer comments within your invitation letter. This option is chosen at the moment the editor sends the invitation.
- After you complete your review: the journal may allow reviewers to view the comments of other reviewers after they have finished their own review. Not every journal allows all reviewers to see other reviewer's comments; this is a setting based on the reviewer role.
- When the decision is complete: the editors may send you an acknowledgement notice when the decision is complete. Many journals that send such a notice will include the text of the author decision letter, with the final comments to author (which may have been edited by the editors). This option is semi automated: the most common option is to have it sent upon final decision to all reviewers who completed a review on the last revision, but editors are able to override whether these notifications are sent and whether they include the author decision letter.

To view other reviewer's comments in EM after your completed review
You can follow these steps after you complete your own review, to view comments from other reviewers (if this functionality is enabled in Editorial Manager):
- Log in to the Journal where the manuscript is located.
- Select the Reviewer Login option.
- Or change roles after login by selecting your name at top right.
- Locate the relevant manuscript under 'Completed Assignments' on your reviewer main menu. You'll always be unable to view the comments before you've completed your own assignment.
- Select 'View Reviewer Comments' in the action column. If the links are collapsed, click the plus sign to expand. See screenshot.
- If the link is not present, either the function is not enabled for your journal, or else no other reviewers have completed a review.
- A table of completed reviews appears, with column for each revision, and a row for each reviewer. You will see your own name, but for other reviewers you will see only the reviewer number.
- Select the linked recommendation term as shown in this screenshot to open the detailed comments.
- Click 'View Attachments' if it appears in the action column (see screenshot) to see any optional attachments uploaded by the editors or reviewers. Note that the editor determines which attachments are visible to reviewers, and the link appears only if there is at least one to view.
After completing these steps, you can view the comments and attachments from other reviewers after you complete your own review (if it is permitted by the journal).
