How can I suggest other reviewers when declining an invitation?
Last updated on October 04, 2022If you receive an invitation to review and are unable to accept the assignment, you can suggest other reviewers via the submission system or the reviewer invitation email you received.
- Ensure you are not currently logged into the submission system in any browser windows, as direct links sent in emails are meant to log you in and may fail if you are currently logged in under a different account or journal.
- Open the 'Reviewer Invitation' email and click 'Decline this invitation'. Note the exact wording may differ for each journal.
- You will be logged in and directed to the Decline to Review page.
- Type in the text box the reason that you want to suggest other reviewers. Provide the name, location and email address of the suggested reviewers. See screenshot.
- Click 'Submit' to send your suggestion.
After completing these steps, you'll receive a confirmation email.
- Log in to the journal by clicking on 'Reviewer login'.
- If unsure of the journal, see How do I find a submission I was invited to review in Editorial Manager?
- If you are not on the Reviewer Main Menu after logging in, click on your name in the upper right corner of the navigation bar, and select your reviewer role.
- If you are unsure which account was invited, or do not know the password:
- On the login screen, click 'Send Login Details'.
- Put in the email address the initial invitation was sent to.
- If you have multiple accounts for one journal, you can contact us to have the accounts merged under your preferred email address before you agree to review. See more information here.
- Click 'New Reviewer Invitations' under the 'Review Assignments' section.
- Click 'Decline to Review' under the 'Action' column. If the links are collapsed, click 'Action Links' to expand the list.
- Enter the reason to suggest other reviewers. Provide the name, location and email address of the suggested reviewers. See screenshot
- Click 'Submit' to send your suggestion.
After completing these steps, you'll receive a confirmation email.
If the link in the email doesn't work, you can't see your review invitation in the system, or you don't have any Review menus or links while logged in, it could be because:
- You've responded already.
- You've been invited to an unregistered e-mail.
- You have more than one registered email.
- The invitation has expired.
- You've been un-invited before accepting
