What should I do if my Credit Card payment isn’t working?

If you encountered an error completing a purchase while making a credit card payment, try any of the below steps:

  • Check if you entered all details correctly and submit the payment again.

    Note: Ensure that your credit card billing address matches the billing address on account.

  • Check whether you have sufficient funds in your Credit Card account.
  • Check the expiration date on your card to ensure that it is still valid. Cards remain valid until the last calendar day of that month.
  • Clear your browsing history, cache, cookies.
    • Too many outdated cookies on your computer can cause you to have problems looking at our site.
    • A full cache can cause pages to load slowly or not at all
  • Try to purchase the product using a different device.
    • On some occasions, smartphones and tablets cannot fully load the required scripts.
  • Submit the payment again at a later point. Your online transaction could have been intercepted due to a system error.
  • Contact your bank to check if any payment security measures have been imposed on your Credit Card. For security and privacy reasons banks are unable to provide Elsevier with information as to why your Credit Card was declined.
