How do I add an abbreviated group template?

Abbreviated groups are a powerful feature of Marvin JS, which helps to draw structure queries quickly and efficiently: using a short text abbreviation you can get a functional group, a ring or other structure fragments attached to a structure query with a mouse click. Marvin JS contains an extensive library of common abbreviated groups.

Follow these steps to add an abbreviated group template:

  1. Access Marvin JS within Reaxys
    • From Quick search, click Create Structure or Reaction Drawing
    • From Query builder, click the Structure querylet and click Create Structure / Reaction Drawing
  2. Click the Abbreviated Groups icon from the Template Toolbar along the bottom.

  3. In the Abbreviated groups dialog, start typing a group such as ri for ring and click the desired abbreviated group, such as ring14

  4. Click the Expand box to turn it on.

  5. Click 'Ok'.
    • The selected group abbreviation appears on the tip of your cursor. The attachment point(s) are highlighted with a purple circle around them.

  6. Click to place it on the canvas.
