Author Guide to New Peer Review Experience
Last updated on March 04, 2026
Watch this short video for an overview of the author guide to new peer review experience.
Editorial Manager’s (EM) new peer review experience introduces a redesigned interface which contains all reviewer comments, author responses to these as well as editor comments together in one single place. The clear and easy process benefits reviewers, authors and editors via more timely and efficient communication. It also allows editors to make informed decisions more efficiently.
Disclaimer: Please note that the information on this page relates only to journals that have transitioned to the new peer review experience.
New peer review experience is not available on mobile, please use other devices to view the links.
- Authors submit their manuscript through Editorial Manager (EM).
- Reviewers evaluate the manuscript in our new peer review experience.
- If you are asked to revise, you have a chance to read and respond to reviewer comments in the new peer review experience, before preparing and uploading your revision to EM.
When you access your manuscript in EM, you can view the peer reviews by following the ‘View and reply to reviews’ link. You must do this before you begin uploading revised files.
Reviewer comments are displayed in the new peer review experience interface:
- Navigate to the ‘Comments for author’
- You can add your responses to the ‘Reply to comment’ box and click on ‘Post’ to submit the response.
Click the ‘Download manuscript’ button located on the right-hand side of the page to view the manuscript PDF.
You can download the reviewers’ comments by selecting the ‘Download peer review’ option.
The ‘Filter comments’ option allows you to view comments from specific reviewers. For example, selecting Reviewer 1 displays only the comments from the first reviewer, and so on.
You can edit your submitted responses after posting them if you need to make further changes. Use the ‘Edit comment’ button to make the necessary changes. However, once you click the ‘Send review response’ button, you can no longer make any changes.
After entering all your responses, click the ‘Send review response’ button to submit. Please note that once you click this button, you can no longer edit your comments.
After responding to the reviewer and editor comments in the new peer review experience, you can get back to EM to submit your revision.
You must not submit a response to reviewers as part of your revision files, as your replies to reviewers must be in the new peer review experience.
For further assistance on revising your manuscript, refer to ‘How do I revise my submission in Editorial Manager?’
You can revisit your paper by selecting ‘View reviews’ in EM to see it any time or simply follow the link to your manuscript from any email previously sent to you.
The editor will review your revised manuscript. They may send it back to the peer reviewers, in which case you will be notified and able to view any follow-on comments. Otherwise, if the editor chooses to Accept/Reject your manuscript, you will be informed by email.
You can download the manuscript file and prepare your response to reviewer comments offline if you prefer. However, you must return to the new peer review experience in your browser to post your response to reviewers and ‘Send review response’ to editor.
The new peer review experience is accessible only through a web browser on a desktop or laptop. You cannot view or submit your responses using a mobile device.
There is a known issue with Safari users due to popup blockers in EM. This problem is scheduled to be fixed by the EM product team in the April release.
In the meantime, new peer review experience users on Mac with the latest version of Safari can follow these steps as a workaround:
- Right-click on the tab URL.
- Select "Settings for editorialmanager.com"
- In the new popup, locate the "Pop-up Windows" row.
- Click on the current value (e.g., "Block" or "Block and Notify") and select "Allow" from the dropdown menu.
How do I access the peer review service? Please access Manage Peer Reviews to sign in or create an account.
