Why am I getting a payment error?

Last updated on May 16, 2024

You may be receiving a payment error due to entering your payment details incorrectly or your bank has declined the payment.

If your credit card payment is not working, please try the below steps:

  • Check if you entered all credit card details correctly before resubmitting the payment.
  • Check you have sufficient funds in your credit card account to make the purchase.
  • Check the expiration date on your card to ensure that it is still valid. Cards remain valid until the last calendar day of that month.
  • Submit the payment again at a later point. Your online transaction could have failed due to a system error.
  • Contact your bank to check if any payment security measures have been imposed on your credit card. For security and privacy reasons banks are unable to provide Elsevier with information as to why your credit card was declined.

If the above has not resolved your payment issue, or if you did not receive payment confirmation when making your payment to Elsevier Author Services (WebShop), please contact us using the Email option below.
