After researching the different levels of clustering, we found that around 1,500 Topic Clusters gave the correct level of granularity. We took all 94,000 Topics and measured the strength of the citation links between them. A Topic Cluster is created where the citation links between the Topics of a Topic Cluster are strong and the links from the Topic Cluster to other Topics are weak. Each Topic Cluster has a minimum of 5,000 publications in it (from 1996 – current date). Only the indexed documents are included in Topic Clusters.
