Newly emerged Topics represent areas of research that have seen a significant growth acceleration in recently published outputs, and citations and have attracted recent funding as determined by acknowledgement of grants in recent publications within the Topic.

In 2024 we launched next generation SciVal Topics and identified 70 Topics in the new set qualifying as newly emerged Topics.

We look at a combination of the emergence potential (recent numbers of publications vs previous years), size of the Topic, citations and funding to classify a newly emerged Topic.
