Why does Mendeley Web Importer need permission to access data for all web sites?
Last updated on February 11, 2020
Permission to read data from all websites is required for two reasons:
- In order to detect importable document identifiers on a web page, Mendeley Web Importer runs JavaScript to read the content of the page. It then looks up metadata for the detected identifiers from the Mendeley Catalog.
- Mendeley Web Importer automatically follows link redirects in order to be able to locate a full text PDF for the references it detects. Since the PDF may not be hosted on the web page you are looking at, the extension requires permissions to follow the redirects to be able to look at other websites.
