What can I do if Web Importer says PDF available but there isn’t (or if there is, it hasn’t been added to my library successfully)?

Last updated on May 27, 2025

Web Importer uses sophisticated and sometimes site-specific heuristics to detect whether a full text is available or not, but occasionally the automated processes make errors in detection. Some examples of cases where Web Importer can make errors include:

  • The web page links to a URL which ends in .pdf, but the linked .pdf URL does not actually contain a PDF.
  • The web page links to a valid PDF to which you have access when you load the Web Importer, but access is revoked before you click “Add to Mendeley” (e.g., by changing from campus wi-fi to a personal hotspot).
