Mendeley Desktop and Cite-o-matic are not supported in macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or macOS 11 (Big Sur).

Solution:
If you are using one of the operating systems listed above, you can use the new Mendeley Reference Manager (more information here and download it here) and Mendeley Cite (more information here).
