How do I use the Search option in Knovel?
Last updated on November 03, 2021
Use the Search option in Knovel, located at the top of the homepage and most Knovel pages, to search for:
- Books
- Chapters
- Conference Proceedings
- Databases
- Dictionaries
- Encyclopedias
- Engineering Cases
- Equations
- Graphs
- Mathcad
- Regulatory Information
- Tables
You may limit your search to a particular field or type of content before you ever type anything in the search box by using the Pre-filter Search Bar drop-down available on the Knovel homepage. If you leave the drop-down in its default 'All' state, no limitations are placed on your search.
You may also take advantage of an easy to use Advanced Search form which allows you to specify one or more pieces of information from across fields (Title, Author, Publisher) and/or use the Free-text search box.
To search interactive content (tables and graphs) by material or substance, property, or a combination of the two, a more targeted result set can generally be had by using the Material Property Search option in Knovel.
How
Follow the below steps to perform a search, or view our Knovel Search video tutorial and our Quick Start Guide for more information.
- Enter one or more words in the search box.
- The results will be the same whether you enter the singular or plural form, or British or American spelling.
- Two or more words separated by spaces are searched using an understood Boolean AND. In other words, unless you specify otherwise, all words in your query are required.
- To conduct a search for a phrase or exact match, place your search terms in quotation marks.
- Use other advanced search features to add more precision to your search query; use Knovel’s synonym tool to improve the comprehensiveness of your search.
- Click 'Search'.
- The Results Page is displayed. By default, the most relevant results are ranked highest and shown first in the results list, but you can choose to re-sort your results by Copyright/Publication Date or Knovel Release Date.
- If you need to further refine your results, using the Facet options on the left of the search results can help you filter and focus your results.
