What are Curated Collections?

Last updated on December 18, 2025

Curated collections are images that are independent of any book or journal and came from specific users. Images maintained in a collection may even be certified as "Rights free" and so collections represent a good starting point for discovering images that can be reused without constraint or cost.

Curated Collections could be images that users have acquired from external sources, Elsevier books or journals. Users define metadata for these images and assign permissions to individual users to control discovery and management of the collection. See How do I manage a Curated Collection?

Example of Curated Collections are: Elsevier collection, Lancet collection, and Dermatology Decision Trees collection.
