How do I run a similarity search?

Last updated on September 02, 2025

When clicking the 'Similar Records' feature on the Search Results page, Embase will:

  • Combine the major focus terms from your record, i.e. 'term 1'/mj AND 'term 2'/mj OR ('term 1'/mj AND 'term 3'/mj) OR ('term 1'/mj AND 'term 4'/mj) OR ('term 2'/mj AND 'term 3'/mj) OR ('term 2'/mj AND 'term 4'/mj) ... OR ('term n-1'/mj AND 'term n'/mj) NOT L123456789.
  • Find the 100 records most similar to your record.
  • Present the records ranked on relevance.

How

Follow these steps to search for similar records:

  1. Search for a term on Embase, use one of your saved searches or a search from your history.
  2. On the Search Results page, click 'Similar Records' next to one of the search results.
  3. The similarity search will run and will be added to your history (e.g. L123456789/sim).
