What are Clinical Overviews?

Last updated on September 05, 2025

Clinical Overviews provide a clinically focused summary of a topic. They include 'key points', 'pitfalls' and 'urgent action' (where applicable) to match the clinician workflow. Clinical overviews can be searched and browsed.

How

To search or browse Clinical Overviews, choose the relevant content type for your product:

  • ClinicalKey: Choose the 'Clinical Overviews' content type.
  • ClinicalKey for Nursing: Select the 'Clinical Overviews' content type.

The Clinical Overviews sections include the following:

  • Synopsis
  • Terminology
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment
  • Complications and Prognosis
  • Screening and Prevention
  • Images
  • References

Elsevier's Point of Care Editorial team develop Clinical Overviews through a process that includes review and revision by a medical editor; peer reviews performed by subject matter experts; a production review to ensure consistency in style, grammar, and punctuation; and a final evaluation by the editor-in-chief. After the initial release, new Clinical Overviews will be posted to ClinicalKey and ClinicalKey for Nursing as they are finalized, and the changes will be posted monthly on the Resource Center.
