How can I view or change a Reviewer Due Date in Editorial Manager?
Last updated on September 19, 2023Watch this short video to see the steps.
Editors may need to update the Reviewer Due Date on a pending review or invitation in Editorial Manager. To do this you must have permission to Override Reviewer Due Dates, and permission to view the submission in the first place.
How?
- Open the Details screen, linked in several places:
- From Reviewer Selection Summary, select the Manuscript Details link on the left side.
- From a Reviewer Reminder Report, select the Details link.
- From an Editor to Do List folder or Search Submissions, select Details on the action menu.
- Locate the Reviewers section and find the specific reviewer.
- If the due date has been set then it appears with the other information.
- If the journal is set to calculate due dates only after the reviewer has agreed, then invited reviewers are displayed with a Days to Review instead of a date.
- Update the date, or the number of days, as needed. If you do not have permission to Override Due Date, then the field is not editable.
- After making any change, scroll to bottom of the Details screen and select 'Save'.
For questions about the configuration in your journal, please contact your Journal Manager.
- Each Article Type has a defined 'Days to Complete Review' setting, it may be 0 which means no default due dates.
- The journal has an overall setting for whether the days are counted from the invitation date, or from the date the reviewer agrees.
- During the invitation process, the inviting editor may have permission to override the number of days.
If there is no due date for a reviewer, because no default was set in the article type, or because it was deleted for this reviewer during or after invitation:
- The reviewer will never be automatically uninvited regardless of the review settings of the submission.
- If completed, the review will not be counted as either Late or On Time in any statistics.
- If the journal has automated reviewer reminders configured based on the review due date, this reviewer will not be eligible for such reminders. The journal may instead have a reminder based on number of days outstanding, the reviewer would still be eligible in that case.
After saving the change:
- The due date is updated for this reviewer.
- If the journal uses the auto uninvite setting, this will follow the new due date. See How can reviewers be automatically uninvited?
- Some journals are configured to send a notice of the changed due date to the reviewer.
- If automated reviewer reminders are configured based on the due date, then any future reminders will follow the new due date.
