Footnote Citation Style Issues in Mendeley Cite

Some users are experiencing problems with citation styles, particularly footnote-based styles. These issues may prevent users from:

• Inserting citations
• Switching to certain citation styles

Yes. If your document is opened in View mode instead of Edit mode, the document may crash.
This occurs because the Mendeley Cite add-in requires edit permissions to write citations to the document.

Tip: Always ensure your document is in Edit mode before using Mendeley Cite.

Yes. If a citation style is corrupted or has previously caused errors when selected, it may contribute to the issue you are experiencing.

At this time, there is no workaround for using the potentially broken footnote citation styles.

  • On Windows: use the Refresh option
