Mendeley Cite Issue with Track Changes

Mendeley Cite currently does not support the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word due to a known compatibility limitation. When Track Changes is used while inserting or editing citations, it may result in duplicated or corrupted citations. Users may experience repeated or duplicated in-text citations, citations not being properly deleted, and incorrect or inconsistent formatting. These behaviors are widely reported when Track Changes is active.

This limitation stems from the way Microsoft Word processes tracked edits compared to how citation fields are managed, which can lead to unexpected behavior such as duplication or leftover citation fields.

To avoid these issues, the most reliable workaround is to turn off Track Changes when inserting or editing citations, as consistently recommended in support guidance. Please be assured that we are actively coordinating with Microsoft to improve compatibility and address this limitation; however, there is currently no confirmed timeline for a complete fix.
