What is an RSS feed and how can I use it?
Last updated on July 23, 2024
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a technique used to share the latest changes on a website. Every time a change is made (e.g. a new article on a specific topic is added to the database), you automatically receive information about those changes in your RSS feed.
In order to read your feeds, you need a RSS feed reader. Most of these RSS readers are available to download free on the web, either as desktop readers (that work through software installed on your computer), or web-based (that don’t require software to be installed).

Limitation: First 20 Embase records are provided in the RSS Feed output
How
Once you have an RSS reader installed on your desktop or laptop, follow these steps to set one RSS feed for Embase:
- Go to one of the following pages:
- Search Results page
- Saved Searches
- Select a result set or a saved search by ticking the box in front of it and click ‘Set RSS feed’.
- Enter a name for your feed and click ‘Continue’.
- Click the link to open your RSS feed.
- Depending on your browser settings, the link will either open in your RSS reader or will open a new browser window or tab. If the feed opens in your browser, copy the URL in the address bar and use it to create an RSS feed in your RSS feeder.
- For Mozilla users, the new version with RSS feed preview and live bookmarks are available only via add-ons. To use Embase RSS feed on Mozilla, please implement the add-ons or alternatively use Embase via a different browser.
Note: RSS feeds cannot be managed from Embase. You need to use your RSS feed reader. Please refer to your RSS feed reader manual or Help for further information.
