What are the technical requirements for Embase?
Last updated on June 08, 2022
Embase works on Mac and Windows and is supported on the following browsers:
- Firefox (version 49 or higher)
- Chrome (version 53 or higher)
- Edge (HTML version 14 or higher, browser version 27 or higher)
- Safari (version 9)
- Internet Explorer (version 11, support stops August 2022)
Please note: Microsoft ceased the support for all earlier versions of Internet Explorer in the beginning of 2016 (more information). Therefore Embase will also only be supported in combination with this version of Internet Explorer.
For Embase users in China: We noticed a significant performance increase if Google Chrome is used. If you encounter any performance issues, then try switching to Internet Explorer.
For all users: We recommend not using add-ins and plug-ins or at least reducing their number to the absolute minimum. All such components influence the performance and memory usage of a browser.
Since Embase communicates with 3rd party JavaScript libraries for functionality and metrics, it is advisable to whitelist the following list of domains and dns’s in your browser or firewall:
- *.embase.com (direct server communication within the *.embase.com domain space).
- *.adobedtm.com (Adobe Analytics)
- *.elsevier.com (Metrics and Support and Help Guides)
- *.pendo.io (User Experience Support Tool)
- *.newrelic.com (Network and Performance metrics)
- *.nr-data.net (NewRelic data)
- *.optimizely.com (User experience and testing tool)
It is also important to note that Embase:
- Communicates over SSL (HTTPS).
- Makes use of websocket connections for requests and responses for the best performance. If websockets are not supported by your browser or network, Embase will revert to using normal HTTP however, you may experience some minor performance degradation.
