How are Retractions handled in Embase?

Last updated on September 09, 2026

A retraction notice is provided by publishers when an article has been flagged to be retracted. The notice is a separate article with different metadata.  Articles that are retracted will have a publication type changed to Tombstone.

We have identified a legacy issue within our processes that is preventing some retracted articles from being updated with a publication type to Tombstone. This update will trigger the Retraction banner being displayed in the Records details page and the Results page. Our technical team is actively investigating and implementing corrective measures to ensure the correct functionality. We understand the impact this may have on your work and are prioritizing a resolution. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to address this matter.
