Accessibility statement Embase

Last updated on July 11, 2025

At Embase, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and accessible platform that empowers all users by enabling equal access and optimizing the experience for individuals with disabilities and impairments, including auditory, cognitive, physical, speech, and visual disabilities.

In alignment with the broader accessibility policies set forth by Elsevier RELX, we strive to meet established web accessibility standards, adhering to the World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1  Level A and AA, as well as similar standards enacted worldwide.

For more information on how Embase aligns with accessibility standards, we invite you to explore our Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) document(Opens in a new tab or window). This accessibility conformance report was last updated in April 2025.

Overview
Some of the accessibility features currently met by Embase include compliance with sensory characteristics, the ability to resize text up to 200% without losing functionality, and ensuring keyboard users do not encounter traps or obstacles. However, there are areas that require improvement, such as adding alternative text for non-text content, enhancing color contrast in specific elements, and resolving keyboard navigation issues—particularly with components that lack clear keyboard focus and consistent focus order across pages. Additionally, while most content is properly structured for assistive technologies, some labels are missing or not correctly linked to their respective input fields.

Organizational measures and initiatives
We remain committed to continuously evaluating our platform, maintaining strong performance in areas where Embase is compliant, and addressing gaps across all areas to meet accessibility needs of all users.

We understand that building an inclusive platform is an ongoing journey requiring vigilance, education, and active engagement. Accessibility is a foundational element of our design and product development process—from initial concept through testing and deployment. To reinforce this commitment, we have appointed at least one accessibility champion in each key area—Product, Development, Quality Engineering, and User Experience. Each champion has completed Deque University’s Web Accessibility course.
