Which tools can I use to improve my search results in Clinical Pharmacology?

Last updated on August 17, 2021

Clinical Pharmacology is centered around the 'Search' box. For best results when using Search, use four or more letters to find results within the monograph name, drug product names, terms used for indications, contraindication/precautions, adverse reactions, manufacturers, and drug class overviews.

The table below provides some useful information on some of the resources in Clinical Pharmacology:

Tool

Description

Drug Identifier

The Drug Identifier is a tool used for identifying unknown tablets and capsules (oral solids). It is found in the 'Resources' section.

Drug Monographs

Clinical Pharmacology drug monographs discuss a wide range of prescription, over-the-counter, investigational, nutritional, and herbal products. We provide both adult and pediatric drug monographs, as available. These can be printed in their entirety or in sections (e.g., Administration and Indications/Dosage).

Clinical Pharmacology discusses only those drugs that have accepted medical/therapeutic utility so DEA Schedule I substances (e.g., heroin) are not covered. However, since cocaine is an FDA-approved prescription drug and has recognized and approved uses, it is discussed in Clinical Pharmacology.

All information is based on products and practice within the United States.

Drug Products

Clinical Pharmacology includes information regarding United States marketed drug products, including prescription, over-the-counter, nutritional, and herbal products. All drug product information is obtained from product labeling as provided by the manufacturer/marketer.

You can print the product-specific information that includes thumbnail images as well as larger images for identification.

Reports

From a monograph, you can start a number of reports from the Report(s) section. You can also start a report from the 'Reports' drop-down menu. All the reports are formatted in a similar manner. Use the 'Recent Reports' link to redisplay the last search for each of the reports one at a time from your current open session of Clinical Pharmacology.

Find/List

The Find/List feature includes searches by index terms, searches for therapeutic classifications by drug product, searches by criteria other than drug or product name, and key listings.

Patient Education

From Patient Education you can link directly to patient drug information, MedCounselor sheets, or disease information handouts. Also, you can link directly from a monograph to MedCounselor or disease information handouts specific to that monograph.

The MedCounselor and disease information handouts are available in multiple languages.

The information can be printed individually, or you can group them together and print them all at once.

You can print and customize single or multiple sheets. This means you have the option to add the following information to the printed handout:

  • Patient's name
  • Healthcare provider
  • Institution
  • Handout documentation page
  • Add special instructions

Resources

The Resources section contains links to tools, reference pages, and partner sites.
