How has research integrity impacted preprints on SSRN?
Last updated on May 02, 2025
SSRN hosts over 1.5 million preprints from more than 2 million international researchers. Our mission is to facilitate the rapid sharing of early-stage research and empower scholars to contribute to a better future.
What type of checks is SSRN performing on content it receives?
SSRN does not peer review preprints, an important step in the manuscript journey for journal-published articles; however, SSRN does undertake research integrity checks in response to an increasing concern and threat from individuals that attempt to undermine the scholarly communication landscape. These checks help us to maintain trust and confidence in our content. We aim to provide transparency regarding our internal processes and checks around research integrity.
To ensure the posting of trusted, high-quality research, we have implemented multiple integrity checks, led by our Research Integrity Team and subject matter experts, within our internal processes. Research submissions can be rejected for integrity or editorial reasons at various stages throughout the submission process.
SSRN has a dedicated Research Integrity Team that screens content as it comes in and investigates possible breaches of integrity standards, including potential falsified data, image manipulation, plagiarism, untrue authorship claims, and paper mill contributed content. Papers that fail SSRN’s initial quality check and that are deemed suspicious papers are rejected.
Will SSRN provide feedback on rejected submissions?
SSRN does not provide detailed feedback on why a paper may have failed an integrity check.
How do I know that the content I am providing does not conflict with SSRN’s Terms and Conditions?
