How do I use the Analyze search results function?

Scopus provides an analysis of your search results and shows you the number of documents in your search results broken down (on separate tabs) by:
The 'Year' tab shows the total number of documents for your search by year. The information is displayed in both chart and list views.
- To sort the year list in ascending or descending order, click the ‘Year’ column header.
- To sort the year list in ascending or descending order by the number of documents, click the ‘Documents’ column header.
- To view brief information about the documents published in a specific year, move your cursor over a chart data point to view year and number of documents published.
- To view a more specific range of years in the chart (affects only the Year tab), click and drag your mouse cursor to zoom in on any part of a chart. The chart automatically resizes, plus the ‘Reset zoom’ button appears.
Click ‘Reset zoom’ to return the chart to its original size.
Click the ‘Source’ tab on the Analyze results page to display the top five sources represented in your search results by number of documents.
The information is displayed in both chart and list views, with each selected source represented by a color data point plotted on the chart.
- To add/remove sources in the chart, click the checkbox beside one or more sources in the ‘Source’ column.
You can display a maximum of ten sources. - To view a more specific range of years in the chart (affects only the Source tab), click and drag your mouse cursor to zoom in on any part of a chart. The chart automatically resizes, plus the ‘Reset zoom’ button appears.
Click ‘Reset zoom’ to return the chart to its original size. - To sort the source list in ascending or descending order alphabetically, click the ‘Source’ column header.
- To Sort the source list in ascending or descending order by number of documents, click the ‘Documents’ column header.
- To view brief information about a source, move your cursor over a data point in the chart to view the number of documents published for a year.
- Click ‘Compare journals and view CiteScore,SJR, and SNIP data’ to compare selected sources on the Compare sources page.
Click the ‘Author’ tab on the Analyze results page to display the top 10 authors represented in your search results by number of documents.
The information is displayed in both chart and list views.
Note: If an author has published a matching article under a different name, that article may not be included in his or her document count.

Click the ‘Affiliation’ tab on the Analyze results page to display the top 10 affiliations represented in your search results by number of documents. The information is displayed in both chart and list views.
- To add/remove affiliations in the chart, click the checkbox beside one or more affiliation names in the ‘Affiliation’ column.
You can display a maximum of 15 affiliations. - To sort the affiliation list in ascending or descending order alphabetically, click the ‘Affiliation’ column header.
- To sort the affiliation list in ascending or descending order by number of documents, click the ‘Documents’ column header.
- To view brief information about an affiliation, move your cursor over a table marker to view the number of documents an affiliation has published.
Clicking on an affiliation’s chart indicator will open a new window with a list of document results for the affiliation.
Click the ‘Country’ tab on the Analyze results page to display the top countries represented in your search results by number of documents.
The information is displayed in both chart and list views.
- To add/remove countries in the chart, click the checkbox beside one or more country names in the ‘Country’ column.

- To view brief information about a document type, move your cursor over a document type's section to view number of documents published for the selected type.
Clicking on document type section will open a new window with a list of document results for the type.
Click the ‘Subject area’ tab on the Analyze results page to display the top 10 subject area represented in your search results.
The information is displayed in both a pie chart and a list view.
- To sort the subject area list in ascending or descending order alphabetically, click the ‘Subject area’ column header.
- To sort the subject area list in ascending or descending order by number of documents, click the ‘Documents’ column header.
To view brief information about a document type, Move your cursor over a subject area's section to view number of documents published for the selected subject area.
Clicking on subject area section opens a new window with a list of document results for the subject area.
From the Analyze results page, you can email search terms to share with colleagues. The recipient of the email receives the following:
- Date the email was sent
- Your search, which is a link giving access to the current search term analysis in Scopus.
- Date range
- Document results
- Statement reflecting the last date the search term analysis will be available

Follow these steps to email analyzed search terms
- From any tab of the Analyze results page, click 'Email' in the upper right corner. If the website's URL is lengthy, a message informs you that it cannot be emailed.
- In the resulting dialog, enter the 'Email address' of the recipient. Separate multiple email addresses with a comma.
- Click 'Send'.
From the Analyze results page, you can export search terms as a CSV file format. The exported file contains the following:
- Scopus analyze results values - [author, affiliation, country, document type, source title, subject area, or year]
- Your search
- Number of results
- Search results you'd like to export, such as author names, affiliation names, countries, document types, source titles, subject areas, or years

Follow these steps to export analyzed search terms
- From any tab of the Analyze results page, click 'Export' in the upper right corner of the page.
- In the File Download window, click 'Open'. Your results appear as a CSV file in a spreadsheet application, such as Microsoft® Excel®.
- If desired, save the file in a desired location for future use.
- On the 'Alanyze search results' page, click 'Print' to print the tab you are currently viewing. The print window appears.
- Select your printing settings and click 'OK'.
