SciVal customers who subscribe to at least three modules can access the SciVal APIs, which offer many functionalities that are available in the web interface. Use of the APIs can help you streamline and automate data retrieval, for instance for the inclusion in regularly established reports or to populate a webpage with relevant metrics.

The following entities are supported in the APIs:

  • Authors
  • Countries
  • Country Groups defined by SciVal
  • Institutions
  • Institution Groups defined by SciVal
  • Publications
  • Scopus Sources
  • Topics
  • Topic Clusters

Per entity, the following refinement options are available:

  • standard year ranges as available in the Overview, Collaboration and Trends modules
  • subject classification selection, e.g. ASJC
  • content type selection, e.g. Articles and Reviews
  • metric refinements, e.g. the ability to exclude self-citations for the Field-Weight Citation Impact

Currently you can retrieve the most used metrics worldwide via the APIs, which are:

  • Academic-Corporate Collaboration
  • Academic-Corporate Collaboration Impact
  • Citation Count
  • Citations per Publication
  • Cited Publications
  • Collaboration
  • Collaboration Impact
  • FWCI
  • h-indeces (for Authors)
  • Outputs in Top Citation Percentiles
  • Publications in Top Journal Percentiles
  • Scholarly Output

Please note that the metric selection for Topics and Topic Clusters is slightly different, and contains the listing of the Top Authors and Top Institutions, amongst others. Contrary to what is available via the web interface, you can also download the full list of Topics for a Country or an Institution via the API.
