The count of policy body countries citing your entity. How many distinct countries have this entity’s publications received citations?
This metric helps to show the reach of your entity's publications in policy. That the publications are being used in local and international policy documents
Policy Document Countries Count is a:

- “Power Metric”
SciVal often displays the Policy Document Countries Count in a chart or table with years. These years are always the years in which the cited Scholarly Output were published, and do not refer to the years in which citations were received.
- Understand the number of unique policy body countries citing your entity's research. How many countries are interested in my entity's research?
- Compare the number of policy bodies countries across entities. Do we have more or less policy body countries citing our publications than our peers? Is this expected?
- Comparing large entities, such as Institutions and Groups of Countries, which will likely publish so many publications that receive so many policy body country citations, that the number of Policy Document Countries Count will approach the maximum and differences may not be visible. Users are advised to narrow their focus to a slice of a large entity when using this metric, such as by applying the Subject area filter.
- Benchmarking entities of obviously different sizes, such as institutions and small departments, when this “Power Metric” will most closely reflect entity size rather than differences in global visibility. It is not advised to use this metric to compare entities of different sizes.
- Benchmarking the impact of entities in different disciplines:
- The international appeal of publications from different disciplines may be inherently different, such as between national literature and chemistry, or local history and computer science.
- It is not advisable to use this metric to compare entities in distinct disciplines without accounting for these differences.
- When comparing entities made up of a mixture of disciplines, such as an Institution or a Country, it is advised to apply the Research Area filter to focus on one field that is common between all the entities.
- Investigating the performance of publications in the very early stages of a new strategy, or of early-career researchers, where the short time that has passed since publication will reduce the reliability of basing decisions on citation information.
- Policy Body Count which help indicate the reach that the Scholarly Output has in policy
- Scholarly Output cited by Policies which indictes how many publications have been cited by the Policy Documents
