The Scholarly Outputs or publications considered in the QS WUR calculation and used to calculate the Citation Count (QS) are limited to the following content types: 

  • Article 
  • Review 
  • Conference Paper 
  • Book 
  • Book Chapter 
  • Article in Press 
  • Business Article 
  • Review 
  • Data Paper 
  • Report 
  • Retracted 
The following content types are excluded: 
  • Abstract Report 
  • Conference Review 
  • Editorial 
  • Erratum 
  • Letter 
  • Note 
  • Press Release 
  • Short Survey 
  • Undefined 

Other exclusions are: 

  • International branch campuses 

Other adjustments:
  • If a journal is classified solely under Scopus ASJC Multidisciplinary Subject area (code 1000), then such papers don’t feed into any of five faculty areas (which is not about paper exclusions, but rather ASJC to QS subject mapping). Still such papers counted in various overall counts.
  • The Scholarly Outputs considered in the ranking calculation are subject to an affiliation Cap (number of unique affiliations listed on a publication) adjustment which is variable per QS subject area while ensuring that no more than 0.1% of an institutions Scholarly Outputs in that subject are excluded.
