How can I add password to my Elsevier user account?

When you sign in to Elsevier via your organization, you do not need to have a password, as you can prove your affiliation with your organization in other ways.

There are several scenarios where it is useful to add a password to your user account after you have activated personalization via your institution or organization. For example:

  • You would like to sign in to an Elsevier product that doesn't support institutional sign in yet.
  • Your organization plans to discontinue federated authentication
  • You are about to leave your organization

When you add a password, you will be able to keep one Elsevier user account and sign in to it with either your email and password or with your institutional credentials. Please note that signing in to Elsevier with your email and password won't necessarily provide you with access to your institutional subscriptions; access to those depends on additional factors.

  1. Go to your Settings.
  2. Sign in via your institution (you will see one of the following two screens):

  3. Next, add password:
