What can I do if Mendeley Importer fails to open?
Last updated on November 27, 2018
If Mendeley Importer fails to open a window when clicked in the toolbar, or opens a blank window, add *.mendeley.com or [*].mendeley.com to the whitelist in any privacy software that you have.
Why is this required?
In order to construct reference correctly and import successfully to your library everywhere that you need it, Mendeley Importer needs to have permission from your browser to read data from any browser page.
However, as a browser extension, it is subject to interference from other browser extensions. Privacy-conscious users may have tools installed – such as Ghostery, DuckDuckGo Essentials, or Privacy Badger – that can block the needed access that Mendeley Importer requires.
What can I do if I want the extension to work but I also want privacy?
Like the majority of web service providers, Mendeley uses an analytics platform to gain aggregated, anonymized insights into how our customer base is using the software. This information helps us to refine the product experience to better serve your needs. If you would prefer your activity not to be tracked in this way, you may achieve this via a combination of whitelisting *.mendeley.com or [*].mendeley.com and disabling Adobe Analytics. Most privacy tools will allow you this kind of granular control.
