How do I import local files using Web Importer?
Last updated on September 07, 2021
Sometimes you may wish to import a local file with a URL such as:
/Users/MyUserName/Document/filename.pdf
via the browser using Mendeley Web Importer. This is possible but requires the user to give Web Importer additional permissions.
On Google Chrome:
- Enter chrome://extensions into the URL bar.
- Locate 'Mendeley Web Importer' and click 'Details'.
- Locate 'Allow access to file URLs' and set the toggle to 'ON'.
You may need to refresh the page before Web Importer is able to import.
On Microsoft Edge:
- Open the "…" menu in the top-right.
- Select ‘Extensions’.
- Locate ‘Mendeley Web Importer’ and click ‘Details’.
- Check the checkbox named ‘Allow access to file URLs’.
You may need to restart your browser.
On Mozilla Firefox:
Due to restrictions at the browser level, it is not possible to import local files using Mozilla Firefox. Please drag the local file to Mendeley Desktop or use the import function within Mendeley Reference Manager.
On Safari:
- Select 'Develop' in the Safari menu.
- Turn 'Disable Local File Restrictions' off.
You may need to refresh the page before Web Importer is able to import.
