Knovel Accessibility Statement

Last updated on July 16, 2025

At Knovel, we are dedicated to ensuring web accessibility by providing an optimized experience for individuals with disabilities, including auditory, cognitive, physical, speech, and visual impairments.

We strive to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), as well as the U.S. Section 508 Standards of the Federal Rehabilitation Act. Additionally, we aim to meet similar accessibility standards implemented globally.

For a detailed overview of Knovel’s compliance with WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 criteria, please refer to our Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). Our latest accessibility conformance report was updated in November 2024.

Commitment to the European Accessibility Act (EAA)

Knovel is committed to supporting the European Accessibility Act (EAA) ahead of its implementation on June 28, 2025.

Key initiatives include:

  • Enhancing web accessibility and platform functionality through significant updates over the past year.
  • Redesigning the reading experience to improve accessibility for content sourced from EPUBs.
  • Partnering with publishers to deliver HTML content sourced from EPUBs, aiming to reach 50% of all content by year-end.
  • Providing PDF versions for content not available in EPUB, though these may not always be fully accessible.

We remain committed to continuous improvement in accessibility and inclusion.

Partially Supported Features and Workarounds

  • Reading Experience:
    • The current content viewer is not fully compatible with screen readers. We are actively redesigning this experience, with a new accessible content viewer set to launch in July 2025.
    • Workaround: Users can select the “Open PDF” button in the top-right corner of the viewer to access a non-accessible PDF that can be read by screen readers.
  • Tables: Keyboard navigation is supported but does not follow a logical order.
  • Equations: Keyboard navigation is supported but does not follow a logical order.
  • Graphs: Keyboard navigation is currently unsupported; however, we are working on a solution.
  • Unit Converter: Keyboard navigation is supported but does not follow a logical order.
  • Steam Calculators: Keyboard navigation is supported but does not follow a logical order.
