What can I customize in Engineering Village?

As a subscriber to Engineering Village, you have many customization options from which to choose. To have any of these customizations added for your library's usage, please ask your librarian or account administrator to contact Engineering Village by using our Contact form.
Engineering Village provides access to full text in two ways:
Local holdings links - Libraries can provide Engineering Village with graphics and/or links that appear where a search result item resides in their online public access catalog or other library intranet pages. If your institution's library participates in this service, a link or graphic will appear in the search result item and be near the top of the record page.
Linking to your own library's local holdings is done through an OpenURL compliant link resolver, such as ExLibris SFX®.
- Full text - Engineering Village search results and the record page sometimes contain the ‘Full text’ button when the full text of a search result item is available. Clicking this ‘Full text’ button takes you to the full-text version of the item on the publisher's website. This feature is typically turned off for Engineering Village users because it takes you away from your institution's website when the item might be available locally.
The default setting for the AutoSuggest feature is enabled. From the Document results list after running a Quick search query, you may turn off this feature in the following ways:
- Click ‘Turn off AutoSuggest’ below the search box(es) to turn off this feature for this session only.
- Click ‘Turn off’ below the dropdown list of terms to turn off this feature for this session only.
- Set a default to turn off this feature on the Search tab of the ‘My preferences’ page for all future sessions by ensuring that the ‘AutoSuggest default off’ checkbox has been selected.
- Turn off the feature indefinitely at the account level by contacting us (librarians and administrators only).
You can choose which database or combination of databases to display on your default search page.
You can choose Quick search, Expert search, or Thesaurus search as your default Home page.
You can change the default results sorting to ‘Date’ or ‘Relevance’ on the ‘My preferences’ page.
Engineering Village can display links to your preferred document delivery service or the Linda Hall Library document delivery service.
Links to full text may be displayed from the Selected Records feature at the following levels:
- Citation format
- Abstract format
- Detailed format
These links can be disabled by request.
You can have Engineering Village set your default beginning search year to the earliest supported in the subscribed database(s).
