How do I set my preferences for results, downloads, searches, or ERP?

Select default databases

Select the default databases that appear on your Engineering Village Quick and Expert search pages.

1. From Database selection, select the checkbox(es) for one or more of the following databases:

   • Compendex
   • Inspec
   • NTIS
   • PaperChem
   • Chimica
   • CBNB
   • GEOBASE
   • GeoRef
   • Patents Plus
   • Knovel
2. Click ‘Save.’ The default database(s) selections will be saved for future searches.

Turn off ‘AutoSuggest’

The ‘AutoSuggest’ feature displayed on the Document results list after running a Quick search query is enabled by default.

• Verify that the ‘AutoSuggest default off’ checkbox is checked to turn off this feature for future searches.

Select specific Advanced display features

The Advanced display feature is closed by default on the Document results list after running a Quick search query.

1. From the Advanced display dropdown menu, select one of the following options to remain open by default. You can select only one option.

   • Closed
   • Databases
   • Date
   • Document
   • Sort by
   • Language
   • Treatment
   • Discipline
   • Autostemming
2. Click ‘Save.’ This feature will be saved for future searches.

Change the number of documents displayed within the results list

Use Number of results per page to change the number of documents that will display in the results for an Engineering Village search.

1. From ‘Number of results per page,’ select one of the following:

   • 25 (default)
   • 50
   • 100
     Your selection appears beside the Number of results per page label.
2. Click ‘Save.’ The number of preferred results is saved for future searches.

Change the sorting default for a results list

Use Sorting default to set the default sorting of your Engineering Village results list.

From ‘Sort default,’ select one of the following:

• Relevance (default)
• Date (Newest)
  Your selection appears beside the ‘Sort default’ label.

Click ‘Save.’ The Sort default is saved for future searches.

Show a preview of a record's content

Use Show preview to change whether or not a preview of a document's content is shown.

From ‘Show preview,’ select one of the following:

• Hide all (default)
• Show all
  Your selection appears beside the ‘Show preview’ label.

Click ‘Save.’ The preview selection is established.

Highlight Search Terms

Users with Engineering Village accounts can enable or disable the highlighting of search terms. Search terms in a Result list and on the record page are highlighted based on your ‘My preferences’ settings.

Disable the highlighting of search terms:

• From ‘Search terms highlighting,’ click the toggle switch to the left to turn this feature off. The search term highlighting feature is disabled.

Enable the highlighting of search terms:

• From ‘Search terms highlighting,’ click the toggle switch to the right to turn this feature on. The search term highlighting feature is enabled.

Set the order of the Top 3 Facets

Use Facet order to set the order of the top three facets that will display in the results for an Engineering Village search.

1. From ‘Facet order,’ select up to three unique facets in the order that you want to see them displayed in the ‘Refine’ results pane. Your selection(s) appear beneath the Facet order label.
2. Click ‘Save.’ The preferred order of the facets is established.

Select a download location

Use the Download Location to select where the files will be copied.

1. From the Download location dropdown, select one of the following options:

   Note: ‘My PC’ is the only active location option when downloading 501 to 1,000 documents.

   • My PC
   • Mendeley (Download format, Download output, Selected records, and File name prefix will not be available if this is selected)
   • Google Drive (Selected records will not be available if this is selected)
   • Dropbox (Selected records will not be available if this is selected)
   • Your Folder(s) - Use this option to save to a folder in Engineering Village (Download format, Download output, and Selected records will not be available if this is selected). Your selection displays beside the ‘Download location’ label.
2. Click ‘Save.’ Engineering Village records will download to the selected location.

Select a download output

Use Download output to select the output of the records downloaded from Engineering Village.

From Download output, select one of the following outputs:

• Current view
• Citation
• Abstract
• Detailed record
  Your selection displays beside the ‘Download output’ label.

Click ‘Save.’ The Engineering Village records will download in the selected record output format.

Select a download format

Use Download format to select the format for all records downloaded from Engineering Village.

1. From ‘Download format,’ select one of the following formats for downloading records:

   Note: ‘EndNote,’ ‘Text,’ and ‘CSV’ (comma separated values) are the only active formats when downloading 501 to 1,000 records.

   • EndNote - RIS, Ref. Manager 
   • BibTeX (Download output will not be available if this is selected)
   • Text (ASCII)
   • CSV
   • Excel®
   • PDF

     • Select the ‘add search summary’ checkbox to download the search summary with the PDF. This summary contains the search query, search type, number of results, database(s), and downloaded date.
   • RTF (Word®)
     Your selection displays beside the ‘Download format’ label.
2. Click ‘Save.’ Engineering Village records will be downloaded using the selected output format.

Remove Selected records

Use Selected records to remove all selected records from your Selected records page immediately after saving them to your PC.

From Selected records, click the ‘Remove after download (My PC only)’ checkbox. Click ‘Save.’ All selected records will be removed from the Selected records page.

Edit File name prefix

Use Filename Prefix to create a customized name for all files downloaded from Engineering Village.

1. From Filename Prefix, click the text box beneath this label.
2. Enter text to be used as the prefix for all downloaded files.

   • You may replace the default text in the box with your file name prefix, or you may keep this text.
   • The prefix must contain at least 3 characters (e.g., letters, numbers, and/or underscore character).
3. Click ‘Save.’ All files downloaded from Engineering Village will now use this prefix within their respective file name extensions.
