How can I add a password to my Elsevier user account?
Last updated on June 19, 2024
There are several scenarios where it is useful to add a password to your user account after you have activated personalization via your institution or organization. Three examples are listed below:
- You would like to sign in to an Elsevier product that doesn't support institutional sign in yet
- Your organization plans to discontinue federated authentication
- You will be leaving the institution
When you add a password, you will be able to keep one Elsevier user account and sign in to it with either your email and password or with your institutional credentials.
Note: Signing in to Elsevier with your email and password will not necessarily provide you with access to your institutional subscriptions as access to them depends on additional factors.
How
- Go to the Elsevier Sign in page. The Elsevier ‘Sign in’ page opens and your email address will be pre-populated under the ‘Email’ label.
- Click the ‘Stay signed in’ checkbox if you would like to remain signed into Elsevier.
- It is not recommended to click this if you are using a shared device.
- Click the ‘Elsevier may send you information about relevant products and events’ checkbox if you do not wish to receive messages from Elsevier.
- Click ‘Sign in.’ The ‘Elsevier account’ page opens.
- Under the ‘Password’ label in the ‘Sign in’ section, click the plus (‘+’) button to enter a password.
- You will receive an email to confirm that you are the owner of the mailbox to which the email is sent.
- Enter and retype your new password.
