How can researchers gauge a paper’s impact?
Last updated on March 26, 2026
Paper statistics, rankings, and PlumX Metrics are just some of the ways researchers can determine the global impact of their work. Data associated with these milestones are available via a papers public abstract page and the author's profile page.
What information is available within the paper stats on my public abstract and author pages?
Paper Statistics are captured on every Abstract Page. Metrics include usage data (article views and downloads) and other article-level metrics.
What information can be found on the Rankings page?
SSRN compiles rankings of Papers, Authors, and Organizations in our system based on a number of relevant measures, such as downloads and citations.
Who is eligible for the rankings?
To be ranked, an author must have at least one publicly available scholarly paper posted on SSRN. Papers must be full text (not abstract only), and publicly available approved content. Abstract only submissions are not counted when calculating rankings.
Why am I missing from an Author ranking?
Rankings are based on affiliations and downloads. Affiliating at the school and/or department level ensures you fall on the appropriate ranking. See How do I add or update my affiliation? for more information.
Is our school and/or organization eligible for a particular organizational ranking?
Schools and organizations must meet specific criteria in order to be included.
PlumX Metrics is Plum Analytics’ comprehensive, item-level metrics that provide insights into the ways people interact with individual pieces of research output (articles, conference proceedings, book chapters, and many more) in the online environment. Collectively known as PlumX Metrics, these metrics are divided into categories to help make sense of the huge amounts of data involved and to enable analysis by comparing like with like. PlumX Metrics are available on SSRN Abstract Pages. Learn more about PlumX Metrics sources.
There is missing data in the PlumX Metrics on my Abstract Page. How do I get the metrics updated and/or corrected?
Please allow at least 1 to 2 business days after SSRN’s review of your paper is complete for your PlumX Metrics to show. For additional questions about missing data or sources, contact Plum Analytics at [email protected]
I revised my submission, why are my PlumX Metrics are no longer available?
Once the revision is processed, your PlumX Metrics will display.
