How do I export documents from Scopus?

You can export results lists, documents, and documents references to a file, another platform, or a reference management tool such as Mendeley or RefWorks.
To export documents (from a document search results page):
- From the document results page, select the documents you would like to export.
- Select 'Export' in the action tool bar.
- You will be prompted to sign into Scopus (Authenticate) to continue with export.
- From the export drop-down menu, choose a file type, reference manager, or platform.
- A dialog with the list of the metadata fields dialog opens.
- Tick the desired boxes to select the metadata fields & information you want to export.
- Note: The metadata fields available for export vary depending on the file type.
- For instance, BibTeX exports will not include 'Funding Details' or 'Other Information' metadata.

- Note: tick 'Save as preference' to save the selected export parameters.
- The export preference appears on the export drop-down menu.
- Select 'Export'.
- Once the export file is processed and generated, it will be downloaded automcatically.
- Note: If you trigger more than 1 export, you can view all the exports in queue from the 'Exports Dashboard'
- Note: You can view and retry failed exports from the 'Exports Dashboard'
- Note: exported files in the dashboard are available for 3 days
Export Processing Time: for simple queries, it usually takes up 30 seconds for the export file to be ready. In some instances, for large sets of data retrievals and depending on how complex the query is (e.g. many metadata fields, numerous operators, complex wild cards & proximity combination, large data set more than 2000, export may take ~5-10 minutes to complete. The status will show 'In progress' until the export is ready. |

- Citation information - Export citation fields.
- Bibliographical information - Export bibliographic reference information about the document.
- Abstract and Keywords - Export the abstract of the document and keywords associated with your search.
- Funding Details - Export funding details for the document.
- Other information - Export information associated with document publishing.
You can export up to 2,000 documents to Mendeley, 50,000 documents to SciVal, and 20,000 items to any of the other export options.
- CSV - Export a comma separated file that you can open in Microsoft Excel. Accented characters do not display correctly in Excel unless you save the file and then use the Excel data import function to view the file.
- Max limit per cell is up to 1000 items
- RIS - Export to other reference management applications including Reference Manager, ProCite, and EndNote.
- BibTeX - Export documents to a LaTeX environment or to use with Bibshare in Microsoft Word.
- Plain text - Export a plain text document.
- Mendeley - Documents export to Mendeley.
- EndNote (RIS) - References export to EndNote. To import references to EndNote, open the .ris file with EndNote and follow the prompts. Make sure that .ris files are associated with EndNote on your system.
- Zotero (RIS) - References export to Zotero. To import references to Zotero, save the .ris file to Zotero and follow the prompts.
- SciVal - Export documents to your SciVal account.
