Publications in Top Journal Percentiles indicate the extent to which an entity’s publications are present in the most-cited journals in the Scopus data universe.

When looking at the output of the World, it is common to think that there should be roughly 10% of the publications in the top 10%, but this is not the case with either CiteScore, SNIP or SJR – the value is much higher. The reason is because journals in the higher journal percentiles tend to be larger (i.e. contain a greater number of publications) than those in the lower percentiles, hence about 20% of the World’s publications appear in the top 10% journal percentiles.
