What are Scopus author pages on ScienceDirect?

Each author profile is automatically generated from document metadata indexed in Scopus. This is publicly visible information that the author supplied when they submitted their documents for publication. An algorithm then links the author name with the names in documents published in ScienceDirect journals.

Scopus integration with ScienceDirect aims to increase global exposure for authors through more discoverable Scopus author profiles. The author profile information is indexed by search engines such as Google, Bing and Ecosia, and accessible through ScienceDirect via author name links on Article and Topic pages.

We currently only show a selection of Scopus author profiles. Our aim is to continue to expand our coverage to include more author profiles. To be considered for inclusion in Scopus profiles on ScienceDirect, an author profile must meet certain criteria: 

• Researcher has a Scopus author profile 
• Author has as least five publications on ScienceDirect 
• Author has at least 50 publications indexed by Scopus

ScienceDirect Topics are automatically generated using an algorithm that extracts keywords directly from the author’s published documents available on ScienceDirect.

Corrections to a Scopus Author profile can be requested using the Author Feedback Wizard.  

The current Author Profiles on ScienceDirect are a static data set, so new profile edits will only be reflected in Scopus initially. There will soon be an automated process that will also update the information on ScienceDirect. 

While authors can request changes to their author profile, it is not possible to have an author profile removed from Scopus. Authors can however request their profile to be hidden from search engines and therefore not visible outside ScienceDirect and Scopus.  

This change typically takes a couple weeks, but sometimes can take up to two months depending on when search engine crawlers revisit the author page. 

Follow these steps to request hiding your profile:

1. Go to your Scopus author profile on ScienceDirect
2. Select 'More about author pages'
3. Select 'submit a request through our dedicated webform'
4. Fill in and submit the webform

Once the form is submitted, we will aim to respond within one business day.

The number of publications shown in the 'Latest publications' section is based on a percentage of the author's total publications, rather than a fixed number. Currently, this section displays up to 10% of their total publications, with a maximum of 10. For example, if an author has 30 publications, only 3 will appear in this section. If they have 100 or more, they will see up to 10. This means that even if they have more than 10 publications, they may see fewer than 10 listed.

If an author has publications that do not appear on their ScienceDirect author page and are available on ScienceDirect, this may be because they are not indexed in Scopus. If the Scopus Content Selection and Advisory Board determines that the document meets the criteria for inclusion in Scopus, it is added and appears on the Scopus Author Profile.
